Profile and Overview
Since it’s inception, RUSH has a long history of successful performance on projects in the Central Florida Region. Our primary clients have been NASA, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Central Florida YMCA.
We excel in the performance of challenging and difficult projects. Our ability to effectively manage the many aspects of a project towards an ultimately successful conclusion is well proven. We are aggressive problem solvers and are very proactive in helping the Owner in the timely resolution of problems that normally occur on most projects.
RUSH is an employee-owned company. The dynamic of this type of ownership is that our employees apply themselves to our projects with the vigor that comes from a vested interest, not just from the performance of a job. On a local level, RUSH is at the forefront in environmental initiatives, having the distinction of constructing the first LEED® certified facility at the Kennedy Space Center, Fl. This building was certified at a “Silver” level and has been joined by a second “Silver” certified facility at KSC.
We have an award-winning safety program, which is administered by our Corporate Safety Director. We have received the highest safety recognition offered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Associated Builders and Contractors. NASA has awarded RUSH with their Public Service Group Achievement Award in recognition of our safety program and their first ever, Environmental Recognition Award.
During our 27-year history, RUSH has never failed to complete a project on, or ahead of, schedule.
RUSH’s dedication to a short list of clients has facilitated its ability to avoid litigation with clients, subcontractors or vendors. RUSH is a member of the Associated Builders & Contractors, the Design Build Institute of America, the U.S. Green Building Council, The Society of American Military Engineers, and the Florida Safety Council.
Green Building “LEED®”
RUSH first became involved with the LEED® Green Building Rating System and facilities while acting as the design-build contractor on the DEOMI facility, a $15.9 million, design-build project at Patrick AFB, Florida. While this project was not required to be LEED® certified, it was designed and constructed with LEED® principles, requirements and constraints.
Our second involvement with a LEED® project involved the construction of the KSC Commissary Warehouse for Delaware North at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). RUSH has Six LEED® Accredited Professionals on staff and is a regular attendee at the annual “Green Build” International conference in order to further our understanding and knowledge of sustainable design and construction. This facility, the first of its kind at KSC, was completed in September 2006, and has been accepted by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) as a “Silver Certified” LEED® facility.
RUSH completed their third LEED® related facility, which is the Life Support Facility located at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. This $5.4 million project encompasses 22,000 square feet and has been certified at a “Silver” level by the USGBC. The Life Support Facility was completed in May, 2008.
We currently have four other LEED® rated projects either in the final stages of completion or in design, including three projects for the USACE, Mobile District. Other environmental initiatives that we are undertaking includes recycling programs at our office and project sites, and the purchasing of high-efficiency and hybrid powered vehicles.
As part of their overall efforts in the area of “Green Building”, RUSH attempts to be conscious of environmental issues related to our project sites. We are proud to have the distinction of having received NASA’s first ever “Environmental Recognition Award”.
Capabilities
RUSH is capable of self-performing trades such as concrete, carpentry, metal framing and gypsum wallboard, painting, and specialty items. Our level of self-performance is typically tailored to meet the specific demands of each project. Collectively, through the experience of our firm and the experience of our staff, we have demonstrated our capabilities in many facets of specialized construction.
Our Project Capabilities include:
| Construction Of “Green” Buildings | Laboratories |
| Concrete Tilt Walls | Launch Control Facilities |
| High-Secure DoD Areas | Clean Rooms |
| Antiterrorism Protection | Computer Labs |
| Indoor Gun Ranges | Anechoic Chambers |
| Rf Shielding |
Safety
RUSH knows that safety is an important factor in the evaluation and selection of any company, however, simply having a safety plan gathering dust on the shelf of a job-site trailer falls far short of the type of proactive effort that is necessary to maintain a safe work environment. Furthermore, an aggressive safety program is an integral element in controlling the schedule and cost of a project.
RUSH invests a significant amount of money and effort in our safety program, and this effort is evidenced by the recognition and awards that we have received. This investment is also represented in RUSH’s current accumulation of approximately 1,658,483 man-hours without a lost-time incident as of 2010 4th quarter.
Further evidence of our commitment to safety is the fact that RUSH employs a full-time safety and quality control director. This position is one that few contractors of our size employ. The creation and maintenance of this position underscores our corporate philosophy and speaks of our willingness to commit significant corporate resources to ensure the safety of our employees, subcontractors, and associated personnel. In addition, we have three certified trainers for the National Center for Construction Education and Research on our staff. These are examples of the additional value that RUSH offers to our clients.
Corporate Safety Program
RUSH’s overall safety program is comprehensive and includes our corporate commitment to safety, written plan and procedures, performance incentives, training, as well as membership and participation in safety-related organizations.
All of RUSH’s Field Supervision hold a current OSHA 30 Hour Certificate, and numerous Construction Health and Safety Certifications and Competent Person Training Cards.
Agencies such as the NASA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the United States Air Force have recognized the exceptional features of the RUSH safety program. Our knowledge of the requirements, expectations, and functioning of a competent safety program for construction projects is among the best in the industry.
