Satellite Alert Facility
Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida
Construct a new 3,750 SF facility for storage of up to three satellites or other USAF/NASA payloads, designed to withstand direct landfall of Category 5 hurricanes. Located less than a mile from the beach, this facility is elevated almost 10′ on 100+ concrete piles driven over 30′ into the ground and is surrounded by a 4′ thick and 4′ tall solid concrete barrier. All this is built atop a 5′ thick concrete foundation designed to shed a direct storm surge impact. Explosion proof systems, bridge crane, nitrogen gas piping, rolling hangar doors and emergency backup power generator are among some of the other building elements.
